Furniture

Matt and I finally got some more furniture to decorate our house! Here are some pics (sorry about the blur):

The side tables, lamps, and vase are new. BTW, the dog is only allowed on the bed when we are getting ready for bed. He sleeps in his kennel at night.

Everything in this room is new! We have had the console table for a few months, but got everything else this weekend!

Snow

It's snowing!!! Whiskey is currently outside eating snow and chasing the birds...without me!! I am soo thankful I don't have to watch to wait to see if he goes potty anymore. We used to do this like new parents do when he was a pup. We were always concerned if he didn't go within a certain amount of time. Matt would stay out in the yard for over an hour just waiting for him to go. (Such a good dad!)

Of course I do have to watch to make sure he isn't digging up my plants, eating the trees, or digging in the mud...but one thing at a time, I guess!

The Bachelor

Oh My Word!! Did anyone else see the Bachelor last night?? I had a study class last night, so I caught it in time to see Jason propose. I was devastated! I really wanted the other one to win. Matt said "Well if you saw the whole first portion of the show, maybe you would like her better." I am not so sure about that.

But THEN, oh man oh man, the "After the Final Rose" show came on and made me an oh so happy girl. But really I am totally weirded out by the whole thing. Did he have to "break up" with her on tv? I wonder if the producers had anything to do with all of this...

$186 later...

Wednesday night after Matt got Whiskey home from the trainer, he fed him dinner as usual. Normally, Whiskey eats his food in 2 seconds flat. But that night he was eating slowly and even paused during his meal. Matt called and told me about how Whiskey was pacing around the house and looked slightly uncomfortable. When I got home, I looked at him and also saw that there was something wrong with him so we decided to take him to a 24 hr vet. Matt's first suspicion was that the trainer accidentally fed him a dinner-all of the dogs at the kennel usually stay Monday-Friday so they all get fed except for Whiskey.

So the vet takes him in and decides that he is distended and should get an xray. We thought that maybe he had "bloat" or had eaten something that obstructed in his intestines. Nope, he really did just eat too much. He had two full meals in his stomach-almost 6 cups of dry food + water=distended stomach and one uncomfortable dog.

We laughed so hard because it was SO benign and we were so worried. So $186 later, and Whiskey missing a couple of meals, and he is a brand new pup!! I have my work cut out for me today because he is in a very GOOD mood!! He has jumped on top of me 5 times already today. Oh, he also weighs 72 pounds now...

On another note, my house always seems to be in shambles after I work my stretch of days. This week was crazy, so I have extra work to do here at home. Luckily today is SO beautiful, I have a reason to get outside and procrastinate on housework/errands for awhile!

I let Whiskey lick my plate the other day and apparently he wanted to play with it.

The happenings

3 days of very busy work over the weekend and I am still thankful to come home to a good husband and a cute pup. Today I am catching up on housework and studying for my study group tonight. Then it's time for 3 more work days. Here are the latest pics of Whiskey.

Pouncing

This is Whiskey when he "pounces" on his toys. He reminds me of a tiger trying to get his prey. Although he went the wrong way and got distracted in this video.

Today was a productive day. Here is the list to make myself feel good.

Got up at 7-got to sleep in!
Took Whiskey to the vet by 8:30 for exam/check-up
Went swimming at local pool
Went to the dentist for cleaning-no cavities!! WOOP!
Dropped off Matt's dry cleaning
Picked up previous dry cleaning
Unloaded the dishwasher and filled it back up
Spent a lot of money at Target for things I "needed"
Put money INTO the ATM-YEESSS!
Bought some Claritin D at Safeway (none at Target-BOO)
Picked W up from the vet and spent more money on "stuff"
Started a load of laundry
Washed my car-yes, in my own driveway with my own soap on my own!
Took W for a long walk...he found a friend got to run A LOT,
but then jumped in every pond possible!!!
Gave W a bath
Started dinner
Blogging...with wine...

swimmer

I did it. I actually drove my butt to a pool I have never been to, and I participated in lap swim for the first time in my life. I am exhausted. And I only did 6 laps-2 with a kickboard. I realized once there that I don't have any goggles. My first lap I swam with my head out of water...ok, I think I can do this... 2nd lap, I swim crawl stroke and I totally messed up my breathing and I felt like water flooded my ears! P.S. DO NOT WEAR JEANS TO GO TO THE POOL. I could NOT get them back on me after swimming. I think it took a good 15 minutes to get them on with them being so stinking tight...

All of this is part of a bigger plan: a sprint triathlon sometime this year :) That's it. I said it, which means I really have to do it now. Matt and I bought bicycles over the weekend and I have not felt like such a kid in awhile!

This weekend was Superbowl Slumberparty weekend at my house. Saturday, we enjoyed a walk to the park with the dogs and then a large lasagna dinner. That night, we went to the casino for some penny machines (I'm cheap), but I didn't win a thing. At home we played a game called Identity which was very fun! You just try to have your teammates guess the person or character you have on your card.

Sunday morning, we all ate some breakfast and then ventured out to Rattlesnake Lake to hike and get some fresh air. Boy am I really out of shape. It wasn't bad at all...it just reminded me that I haven't really worked out in awhile. (Hence the swim today)

After our hike, we all munched on a lot of superbowl food all day and watched the game. I took a little nap and Matt chased the dogs around so they wouldn't cause trouble.

Great weekend!!

another post

Man, am I full of posts today. I filled these apothecary jars today after finally figuring out what to put in them. For Christmas, I filled them with water, fresh cranberries, and evergreen branches.

And here is my deviant little boy Whiskey. He sneaks up on the couch and quickly makes himself soooo comfy that I couldn't possible want to kick him off?! As soon as I tell him no and walk over to him, he stiffens up and leans into the back of the couch. This is a 2-3x a day occurrence.

soup

I made some soup last night...because it's clearly soup weather. I went off of a recipe I found recently called Turkey Albondigas soup. Albondigas means meatball, I think. It kind of reminded me of a spanish version of Italian Wedding soup. I tweaked it a bit though, and I will give you the recipe for my version (which is doubled so we have leftovers):

meatballs:
2lbs ground turkey
about 3 TBS each: cumin and oregano
about 2 tsp each: salt and pepper
2 eggs
almost 2 cups of bread crumbs

*mix together, form meatballs, refrigerate for about 20 min. (why? I have no idea...I just follow what they tell me...) This made about 30 med-sized meatballs.

soup:
3 large carrots, chopped
1 lg onion, chopped
1 lg can of diced tomatoes
4 lg pasilla or poblano peppers, chopped (I used pasilla because I couldn't find poblano...and I have no idea what the difference is) they are large and dark green :)
1/2 box acini de pepe noodles (small little tiny balls)
10-12 cups chicken broth...or however much you want :)
salt and pepper to taste
3-5 TBS cumin and oregano each (I used a CRAPLOAD-literally)
fresh cilantro

in a large pot, heat up EVOO, add chopped up carrots and onions. cook until softened. add the peppers, and tomatoes, cumin, oregano, s&p. Add broth. increase heat to high and get up to a boil. add the noodles, and the meatballs. Cook for at least 8 minutes at a simmer to cook the meatballs. Garnish with the cilantro.

The original recipe called for extra jalapenos and brown rice instead of the acini. I will try it next with the rice because this soup was AWESOME!

hair

So, I failed to mention that several weeks ago I dyed my hair. It is now brown...you know, for winter. I needed something different for awhile. I have had mixed reactions to it, but I will most likely go back mostly blonde later on... :)
Here are a couple of pics from Christmas...terrible pics, but you get the idea

New Year's Eve

So I had to work 7am-7pm on New Year's Eve and then again on New Year's Day, so I was at the party a little late. Everyone went on a Scavenger Hunt that Bry and Amanda put together around Seattle. They said it was awesome, and I hope they make it an annual thing so that I can do it next year.

So I realize as I am typing, this is the only pic on this camera worth putting on the blog. I have more on my NEW IPHONE (yay!!) that I will put on later if I can figure out how to do it. I feel really OLD because I feel incompetent with this new phone.

Christmas Eve

Here are some pics from Christmas Eve. We had my Mom's family over to my place for dinner/gifts this year! I made Beef Tenderloin, Green Beans with Almond Butter and a yummy salad with pears and candied pecans. It was fun, but oh so tiring!

I couldn't put pics up without this one from Whiskey's time in our deep snow.

This was taken on Christmas Day at my house again with Matt's family. Bry is showing off my new Rooster apron.

And here's Whiskey again with his new HUGE bone that he LOVES

We had a great Christmas and my house is still turned upside down because I have been working the past few days. Today is THE day. Hence the reason for blogging now while I enjoy my coffee. Oh, and CONGRATS! to all the people who are pregnant or who just had babies lately (there are SO many!!)! We LOVE hearing the good news and seeing all of the pics!
